Operation Market Garden, which the Battle of Arnhem was part of, deserves to never be forgotten. To go on a tour with a specialised guide is a unique experience. By appreciating how history actually happened, you will be able to pass on the stories yourself! During these guided tours you can often explore your own perspective; perhaps you would like to do research on an ancestor who fought or died during this operation?

In the Airborne Region we have several enthusiastic Battlefield Guides who are ready to put together a specialised tour. We are always happy to introduce them to you.

Battlefield Discovery

Edwin Popken

I like organising private tours for individuals and groups and Step-on guides for TOs. A tour is usually standard, but it is also possible to have a personalised tour. For example, for tourists, people keen on history, family and veterans, military groups. I am specialised in the Allied landings around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. In the US 101st Airborne Division in the Betuwe (Oct-Nov 1944), 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division – winter 1944/1945, Experience of War, and the strategic and political context of Market Garden.

Gilde Stadswandelingen

During tours we transfer expert, objective and interactive knowledge and backgrounds about Arnhem, the present, the past and the future, in all its facets. We talk about and point out its cultural and historical monuments and other sights, its history and other stories, its events and other attractions. In short everything that is worth knowing for its guests.
